One time I went elk hunting out west and my legs were destroyed. I guess my gym workouts didn't prepare me for real mountains, how do you train for elevation and steep terrain?

Nothing exposes fake cardio like altitude, throw on a pack, find a hill and repeat until you stop bargaining.

I always figured I was in pretty good shape until I went on a real climb, carrying some weight. That day showed me otherwise. Sure, gym strength helps a bit but out there, your lungs and how you place your feet make a much bigger difference.
