Fixed power or variable scope for hunting

Variable gives flexibility but adds weight and complexity. Fixed is lighter and simpler but limits range options. I run variable because I hunt varying terrain and I need 3x in the woods, 9x across fields. So know your hunting environment and pick accordingly. One isn't universally better..
 
I use a scope that changes power the same way. In the woods, you want low power but in open areas, you need more zoom. Knowing the land is more important than looking for one perfect answer.
